As part of the celebrations for our 175th Anniversary we have commissioned a special commemorative cap which is available for our members to buy. The caps are traditional 'baggy' cricket caps made by Gentlemen & Players, who also provide the caps for England's Test Match players, the West Indies, the MCC, the British & Irish Lions, and a number of English first-class counties. These caps are the real deal – as worn by Ben Stokes, James Anderson, Joe Root etc.
For our 175th Anniversary we've reflected Tynemouth's traditional club colours of Navy and Sky Blue in the cap design, with hand-stitched navy panels separated by sky blue piping and with our famous three crowns (croons!) embroidered on the front.
The caps are available in two sizes, S/M (51-57cm) and L/XL (57-63cm) so are suitable for both adults and children. These caps are a great way for our current (and former) senior players to mark their place in the history of the club, and perfect for our junior members to wear as they grow-up through the age groups and go on to be our senior players of the future.
They'll also look brilliant worn both on and off the field along with our anniversary kit which our sponsors have kindly provided for all of our playing members. You don’t have to be a player to get one, though – caps are available to all members, young and old.
As a special touch, members will also have their initials embroidered on the side of the cap (vital to make sure they're not mixed up in the dressing room!) and also, for those current and ex-players who have represented our 1st XI in the North East Premier League, their 'cap number' which marks the order in which they have been selected for our first team since the NEPL began in 1999. A list of the cap numbers can be found here*
These special edition caps are available for £30, including full embroidery of the club crest and your initials, plus your NEPL 1st XI cap number where applicable. Caps can be ordered via the 'club shop' on our website.
We will be placing a bulk order with the supplier including details of all initials/numbers to be embroidered so it's important that we get orders in quickly. If you would like to get yourself or your child one of these top-quality commemorative anniversary caps then please place your order by Sunday 5th June, at the latest.
*As much as we would love to have been able to work out 'cap numbers' for 1st XI players since the club's formation in 1847, this would be a mammoth undertaking and unfortunately, we do not have complete records going back that far. Suffice to say that if 140-odd people have represented our 1st XI in the last 23 years then it's likely that over 1500 will have pulled on the three crowns at one point or another in the last 175 years!
